Dover – Take-off port to Holland

After two days of tinkering in Bursledon now but everything went very quickly: On Sunday we are already at 6 Clock in the morning light from the Hamble River expired, the Solent to the Isle of Wight sailed down, placed briefly a fuel stop in Portsmouth and then the route on the south coast antlang continued to Brighton. 57 Miles were on that day at the Log.

This morning we started a little later. Around nine until we left the harbor – However, with one person less on board. Jack, has accompanied us the first few days and prepare a really good time, left us this morning, since he returned to Berlin on Tuesday must be. Reduced by one crew member Nick made us, I made our way to the East. Dover today should be our goal – and it was also! After less than 70 Miles Rauschefahrt with up to 10 Knots over the ground (!) we achieved tonight against 20 Clock the Port of Dover, reported to us by radio to the control port, were let in, and now lie quietly in the dock dümpelnd. What a contrast to the surf in the afternoon, for up to 3 and 4 Meter high waves! That was a gigantic sight… Otherwise, we are constantly, us to teach each other the language – I train my English (Language on board) and Nick is learning German. Therefore, we have several times the same things on board German names missing. The engine e.g.. is now called “August”. – “I’m gonna wake August from his Kaffeepause and let him push us …”. In addition, we have now crossed the longitude of Greenwich! A funny feeling, on the GPS “00° 00,000′” to see, before the “In” on “It” umspring and shows us, that we are now in the Eastern Hemisphere.
We can hardly wait for both, again to return to Germany. As the weather is indicated for the next few days as excellent, We will now make a few long shots.
The small Contessa 26 also makes really good. Even though she still a foot shorter than Maverick's and much lower in the water is, The water is logical to feel very much more (particularly, again when a wave breaks into the cockpit ;-)), but it is surprisingly seaworthy and sails very much better than Maverick. A great design. Finally, even some of them sailed around the world.

Tomorrow we will continue until noon, with the tidal current in the neck over the Strait of Dover. Previously, we still need to patch up the tree, from the torn neck when a couple of rivets for the mainsheet, and buy a couple of charts for the next seascape. Then another provision beforehand and then it goes into the night. Next Stopp: Holland!I rise,

John
