Everyone said we would die…

… is Swedish and means as much as “Everyone said, We would die”.

It is the story of three young Swedes Danjel Henriksson, Kajsa Björn und Jonathan Bonthron, together on their Albin Vega “Sally Blue” (Year 1968) sailed around the world.

I have taken the three almost exactly three years ago in Gran Canaria, while we are all preparing for the imminent crossing of the Atlantic. For nearly three weeks ago, I was now in Las Palmas and was just about, my little colorful Genoa jib against the exchange, when I heard a Danjel at the jetty in German “Hi, We are still looking for a fourth man to play volleyball. Do you want?” – Unfortunately, I still wanted to continue on the same day, sail to La Gomera, then start from there across the Atlantic, But we got a little this week. Danjel told, that they are three of the same size on a boat traveling, Two men and a girl. The three to 8.25 m? This impressed me very. When they left Sweden, they had not even know much about boats. Instead of stainless steel screws they had turned a simple iron bolts already on board and on the Canary Islands was the deck of rust stains dotted. Now it was also her old Albin engine failed, although Kajsa, had studied mechanical engineering as a practical, it formally at every opportunity in the harbor overhauled. But that never took more than a few hours at a stretch. Their plan was now in the Canaries, Buy a used outboard motor and then to sail to Christmas and New Year across the Atlantic to the Caribbean. “And then?” – I asked – “Then go around the world!” – answered Danjel.

Although hardly any of her friends believed, managed to travel. I have lost three all after leaving Las Palmas, unfortunately, out of sight. I initially hoped, them again on the other side, But somehow we must have just missed. For two years I heard nothing from them, until I accidentally came across while surfing the internet your site. At that time they already had the world in the wake and motorten through the French canals to Germany.

Almost two years after we had met in the Canaries, So we met in the summer 2007 again in Travemünde. Almost unbelievably, what they have done three – and the small Albin Vega. But Vegas is well known for its incredible seaworthiness, what the journey of the Norwegian Jarle Andhoy with his “Berserk” the Southern Ocean shows. Here are some excerpts from it.

So now is the book for the trip appeared, I had put in my mailbox yesterday morning. Although I was assured Danjel, I will have some problems reading the text in liquid, But that's now finally a reason to learn Swedish…
